Bridging History and Innovation in the Railway Coastal Building
Genesis Coworking is a vibrant workspace located in the historic St. John's Railway Coastal Building, a site rich with Newfoundland's railway heritage. The Railway Coastal Building, a symbol of the province's transportation history, now serves as a hub for innovation and collaboration.
Genesis Coworking evolved from Common Ground coworking, the pioneering coworking space in Newfoundland. Common Ground (2014) was established to provide a collaborative environment for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. Recognizing the growing demand for flexible workspaces and the benefits of a supportive community, Genesis Coworking was created to expand on this vision.
The transition from Common Ground to Genesis Coworking signifies the growth and evolution of coworking in St. John's. By choosing the historic Railway Coastal Building as its home, Genesis Coworking bridges the past and the future, offering a unique workspace that celebrates local history while fostering modern innovation and collaboration.
The Riverhead Station, which was completed in 1903, was restored by the Johnson Family Foundation with support from the City of St. John’s and financial assistance from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
